Road - Mind the Tread

Did you know - this is Tyre Safety Month? Apart from the obvious reasons for checking your tyres there is one other reason. It gives the Polis another excuse to pull you over for a wee chat, even if you weren’t speeding, eating crisps, or keeping yourself awake by driving on the rumble strips.

The minimum legal tread depth for car and van tyres is 1.6 mm throughout a continuous band comprising the central three-quarters of the breadth of tread and round the entire outer circumference of the tyre.

And if your old knees and chappit hauns are preventing you from stooping down to check them yourselves, here’s a handy tip. ATS Euromaster is offering free tyre safety inspections at any of its 370 centres throughout Scotland and the other bits of the UK during the month of October.

Driving with illegal tyres risks a £2,500 fine and three penalty points for each illegal tyre, or worse, a major accident.
