This weekend there are a
couple of events closer to home than that idyllic, romantic tour of
Welsh Forests currently underway down south.
Border Ecosse CC’s ‘Early
Winter Navigational Rally’ starts from Floors Castle tomorrow evening (Saturday
16th) at 19:31 Hrs, finishing in the early hours of Sunday morning
near Jedburgh.
But this is more of a ‘do’
event than ‘watch’ so if you fancy something a bit more strenuous, then there
is the BritPART ‘Borders’ Hill Rally tomorrow and Sunday at the Forrest Estate
just off the A713 north of St John’s Town of Dalry
However, this is not a ‘spectator-friendly’
type of event so don’t expect helpful signs and portaloos, but if you are
interested in finding out first-hand a bit more about the sport and the machinery
they use, then it might just be worth a visit. Take your wellies, hats and
gloves, and don’t expect a mini-bus ride to the ‘spectator areas’ either!
Oh, and there is one other treat, Ballards of Castle Douglas will
be providing the catering with steak, burgers, sausages, bacon, haggis, and black
pudding supplied from their own butcher’s shop in Castle Douglas - and of
course, pies! There will be soup and chips too, but not necessarily in the same
cairry-oot container.
Leg 1 starts at 11:00 am
on Saturday morning and finishing some time after tea-time (6 pm), and Leg 2 at
9:00 am on Sunday morning and finishing just after mid-day.
