Oddly enough, the
two have more in common than you might think. Both Monaco and Tobermory have colourful
houses cuddled around a beautiful a bay with sheltered harbour and both host
major motor sporting attractions. Both have natives who speak a 'foreign'
language, an array of shops and eateries, and notable establishments which
cater for those who have a severial thirst which must be quenched of a weekend
evening or two.
This coming weekend, the two will share
a 50th anniversary. In 1967, Paddy Hopkirk finished 6th in a Mini Cooper and this weekend, that very same
car will contest the Beatson's Building Supplies Targa Rally on Friday crewed by Graham Wright and Michael Hyrons.
The one-day Targa Rally gets underway on
Friday 13th and the Rally Time Trial on Saturday 14th, with of course the traditional
Tunnock's Teacake Eating contest on Friday evening the 13th - and no doubt the
fervent hope by Rally Marshals that none of Saturday's co-drivers will have been
in action the night before!
Through no fault of their own the
Muileachs found themselves without a closed road rally this year and it's with
grateful thanks to Beatson's Building Supplies that the continuity of a motor
sporting weekend will be maintained.
