Road - Weel kent faces

The Construction and Quarrying show at Hillhead near Buxton in the Peak District  is huge, so big that even the wide angle lens won't photograph it all. It's also very warm, and the glare off the white sandy floor is brighter than the sands at Calgary Bay (true rally fans will know where that is!).

Bumped into Scottish exile, Fred Bell who works for JCB, and now lives near the factory which is in Uttoxeter. Fred is still co-driving but in a more gentlemanly manner these days than thrashing through the woods in a Scottish forest rally. He has teamed up with 'tax exile' Callum Guy who has an ex-works spec MkII Ford Escort, to replace the Porsche 911 he previously had, and the pair pick and choose European Historic rallies to contest. The car had a wee bump last time out in the Czech Republic so they'll miss Ypres, but are planning a trip to Elba in September.

English rally driver Richard Parry also works for JCB and he has bought an ex-Dealer Team Vauxhall Astra 2 litre. The rebuild is nearly complete and he has an eye on Mull this coming October. Richard helped out John MacCrone in the Peugeot days and still keeps in touch, so even down here ytou can't get away from Scottish rallying and rallyists!
