Rally - Bogie's Fourth

Well, that’s it, done and dusted. David Bogie and Kevin Rae have taken their fourth consecutive Scottish Rally Championship title.

They have actually bettered the late Drew Gallacher’s record, he scored three consecutive titles and one other, David and Kevin have taken four in a row.

At the finish of the Ian Broll Merrick Stages Rally, the new Champ said: “It’s good. To make history in whatever you do is always good. We needed a second today, but we got the win. Euan (Thorburn) and Jock (Armstrong) pushed us hard all day, but Euan got that gearbox problem. That’s rallying, we had a gearbox problem on the Jim Clark and the championship could have gone any way after that.”

As for the final round on the McRae Stages next month, David has plans: “The Lancer has done a lot of work and served us well so maybe it’s time to pension the old girl off. I’ve got another car in mind for the McRae, but we’ll just have to wait and see what it is.”

As for Euan, it wasn’t actually the gearbox that gave up the ghost it was just a hydraulic oil leak that couldn’t be fixed with Euan and Paul unable to make the final stage.

That left Jock in third place from last year’s Merrick winner, Mike Faulkner while Chris Collie scored his best ever Scottish Championship result with fifth place.

And you know what? The sun was shining on Wigtown as the final cars came through the SRC arch, maybe Big Drew was up there watching his record finally being matched and beaten.
