Service crews always like to stake their claim
on the best patch of ground at service areas and then try to make their territory
stand out so that arriving crews can spot them easily. And so it was at the Border
Counties that one such crew turned a little corner of Roxburghshire into home. It
was a re-enactment uncannily reminiscent of the American marines raising of the
Stars & Stripes at Iwo Jima 71 years ago. Looking like Scottish settlers
after the Highland clearances, our heroes dutifully unfurled and raised their own
'national standard' on behalf of Geoff Goudie and Murray Strachan. But which
national standard is it, I hear you ask? The clue is Geoff is from Shetland.
