The
Scottish Borders Hill Rally takes to the hills and forests of Ayrshire this
weekend, starting tomorrow (Saturday 22nd) at 11.00 Hrs. Over 40 vehicles have
entered ranging from pretty standard looking Land Rover Defenders to 6.2 litre
V8 specials.
So if you need a final ‘fix’
of motor sport ahead of Christmas Pud and Black Bun, this could be your last
chance this side of the border.
It’s also the final
round of the ‘Defender Challenge by Bowler championship’, a series created
to offer competitors an ideal introductory route into international rally raid
competition such as the Africa Race and Dakar Rally.
Three teams from the Defender Challenge are currently
preparing to compete at Dakar in 2016 including one Race2Recovery team.
The first Leg on
Saturday will finish late afternoon/early evening and the second Leg on Sunday
starts at 09.00 Hrs and finishing mid afternoon.
The event is not really
geared up for spectators, but if you’re interested, bring stout wellies and cold
weather gear.
The Forrest Estate venue
is just off the A713 north of St John’s Town of Dalry (about 16 mls south of
Dalmellington) and there is usually a dayglow arrow indicator on the verge.
