Rally - Shirt shoppers

Just ahead of this week’s Autosports show and next week’s Monte Carlo, guess who was in France getting kitted out in their new gear and picking up their ‘company car’ for the year?

Kris Meeke and Paul Nagle were having their team photographs taken in France (wonder if Slater’s has a branch in Versailles?) ahead of the new season. I bet their mammies will be furious - the shirts look as though they haven't even been ironed!

This is going to be a tricky one for the British/Irish duo, and perhaps their biggest threat will not come from Volkswagen, Ford or Hyundia, but their Norwegian/Swedish team mates, Mads Østberg and Jonas Andersson.

At 26 years of age, Mads has actually competed in more WRC events than 34 year old Kris. In 65 outings, Mads has finished on the podium six times and won once in Portugal whereas Kris has contested only ten rounds although he previously competed in Citroen’s Junior team and won the IRC series in 2009.

That’s going to put Kris at something of a disadvantage initially, but then he does have age and experience (imagine saying that about someone who’s only 34!) on his side, but then again, Mads is well named!

Anyway, here’s hoping Kris and Paul get off to a flying start next week.
