Plans
for this year's Beatson's Mull Rally scheduled to run over the weekend of 8-11
October are still underway. Naturally the team are only too well aware that
their position will have to be constantly reviewed depending on how the
nation's health is being managed, but that doesn't mean they have to stop planning,
or we can't keep hoping.
It's also worth noting
that this annual event is not just a sporting occasion. It comes right at the end
of the traditional tourist season and has in the past provided a real boost to
the island economy ahead of Winter each year. Like other tourist destinations
around the UK, this island, and others in the Inner and Outer Hebrides, will
face a significant financial shortfall as holidaymakers are denied the chance
to enjoy their various attractions and delights.
However, other factors
will have to be considered too. Will the islanders be in a position to welcome
the rally and will competitors be financially able to take part? Things may
well be clearer by July when the Regulations are due to be released.
So much uncertainty -
but also so much desire, intent and commitment.
Fingers crossed, eh?
