Andy Beaumont and Andrew Fish won today’s Mull Hire Classic Rally on the
Island of Mull in their Sunbeam Rapier H120. At times it looked like a big car
in some of the tighter tests, and yet Beaumont’s deft touch on the steering and
handbrake spun that beastie round the 360s as neat as a whip and peerie.
Craig
Wallace and Clifford Wallace scored a hard won second place, despite a suspect fractured
strut in their Toyota, just a scant few seconds clear of Fraser Hughes and
Peter MacInnes in the topless Mazda.
Michael Reid
and John Lindsay were 4th in the nimble Midget just 8 seconds ahead
of the Toyota Paseo of Ryan Hay and Niall Thomson with Hay whipping the front
wheels off at the lunch halt to tighten up his sumpguard bolts.
Rounding off
the top six were Ian Buchanan and Gemma Conroy in their Subaru Impreza.
Despite the
inclement weather most folk enjoyed the 14 Tests, the 3 Regularities and the
banter with Andy Beaumont commenting: “That was superb. We enjoyed it, and it
tested us both.”
