Rally - Speyside leaders

5 seconds cover the top ten places after the opening two stages on today’s penultimate round of the ARR Craib Scottish Rally Championship, the McDonald & Munro Speyside Stages Rally.

The bigger surprise is that Donnie MacDonald tops the leader board but by only a second from Jock Armstrong who has a second in hand over Mark McCulloch. Sharing 4th place are the McCombie brothers, Bruce and Scott plus David Bogie, Shaun Sinclair and Kevin Robertson.

But don’t get carried away, the first two stages were held in Cooper Park in the city centre of Elgin and are only slightly more than a half mile long each. Tricky little blighters though. However, the real business of 7 forest stages is now underway.

There was another surprise in store for the early risers this morning up here in the far north. A strange, bright orange ball appeared in the sky just after dawn. And it’s radiating heat! Admittedly ‘heat’ in these parts is a subjective term. We’ll see how long that lasts.

Spare a thought this morning for Mike Faulkner. Arguably one of the founding members of the ‘lucky white heather club’ he suffered again this morning. A driveshaft broke on the Lancer and he’s already down 20 seconds on the leaders.
