Rally - Malcolm Wilson

There’s an excellent entry for tomorrow’s (Saturday) Malcolm Wilson Rally in Cumbria. Paul Bird heads the field with Aled Davies in their Focus WRC07 followed by our own Dave Weston and Kirsty Riddick in the Impreza and Euan Thorburn in Paul Benn’s Focus WRC02. This was a last minute deal when Paul had to withdraw from the driving seat, but co-driver Richard Cooke was desperate to do the event so Euan was drafted in! Second last year in a Focus, Euan won it the year before – so no pressure then, eh?

Also entered from this side of the Border are Andrew Gallacher and Jane Nicol in the Fiesta Evo, adopted Scot Wayne Sisson with Neil Shanks in his Evo10, the ‘Highland Flyer’ Donnie MacDonald with Andrew Falconer in the Evo9 and Kevin Robertson and Murray Strachan (Evo8).

Up against them are quite a few more handy furriners including Charlie Payne in his Fiesta and Stephen Petch in his Fiesta R5+, David Wright in his 01 Focus, Luke Francis, Jamie Sanderson, Peter Stephenson and Jim McNeil.

Further down the entry list are Freddie Milne and Martin Forrest (Evo7), Andy Kelly and Roger Herron (in ‘Walter’ the Mk1 Escort), Allan McDowall and Gavin Heseltine (Escort RS1800), Ryan Weston and Mark McCulloch (Proton), Bob Adamson and Dick Wardle (Escort RS1800), Greg and Chris McKnight (Mk2), Keith and Mairi Riddick (MG ZR) and Caroline Carslaw and John Duke (Fiesta).

And it’s not just the ‘us v them’ that adds to the spectacle, look no further than Steve Bannister (and our Louise) up against Matthew Robinson. Steve and Mathew are great pals, but stick them in an Escort and show them a forest and you won’t need a wood chipper to clear the trees.

There’s over 120 entries and Spectator info is here:

  2. Actually, that was my deliberate mistake of the week.
If I gave out prizes you'd definitely qualify, but I don't so you won't!
Just wondering if anyone out there was reading this stuff.
Or can we just put it down to a 'senior' moment?
If I think of any more excuses I'll let you know.
    Dohhhh.
    Anyway, duly changed and sorted.
    Cheers, JF
