David Bogie won today’s Border Counties Rally by 40 seconds
from Stephen Petch. Going into the final stage Andrew Gallacher was lying third
but Peter Taylor snatched the place back after equalling Bogie’s fastest time
on the final stage. Donnie MacDonald was delighted with fifth ahead of Bruce
McCombie.
But Bogie was lucky: “I damaged the crown wheel and pinion
and had mostly rear wheel drive through the final stage. It was grinding away
and I was trying not to be too hard on it. By the finish of the stage I was smelling
the oil but we made it.”
Stephen Petch enjoyed his day but was a little disappointed:
“I felt we drove really well in that last stage and then we looked at the time –
it was sh*t.”
Peter Taylor took 13 seconds time out of Gallacher on the
last stage to snatch third place by a mere 8 seconds.
Shaun Sinclair survived a fifth gear excursion through a
ditch in Stage 5 and was happy enough with 7th place: “My target was
to beat Bazz (Barry Groundwater) so job done,” but they actually tied on
identical total times so Sinclair got it on the tie-break!
Mark McCulloch was ninth and Freddie Milne rounded off the
top ten.
