A brand new Volvo FH tractor unit has hit the highways of Britain this week with the latest addition to the Stuart Nicol Transport fleet now on active duty. Driven by long time rally fan and Coltness Car Club member, Ally Shaw, this truck will turn heads wherever it goes. Ally calls it 'the McRae Edition' and it's pretty much unique. It's not only a visual feast, it will surely stir the souls and memories of rally fans throughout the UK.
Painted by a young Welsh artist Kiaran Davies from Llandovery in South Wales, the truck features a variety of images representing the careers of Jim, Colin and Alister with the back of the truck emblazoned with Colin's favourite Mk2.
Ally recalled seeing the finished truck for the first time: "It was spooky, particularly the portrait of Colin, the eyes follow you all round the room wherever you're standing."
The treats continue inside the cab. Trimmed out in two-tone leather, the bedding and curtains feature the McRae tartan!
Amongst the first to see it was fellow CCC member Jim McRae - and he even got to drive it, just not on the public road! Keep your eyes peeled.
Just after the truck was painted, it's first job was a return trip to Holland from its North Lanarkshire base, so even the continentals will get a chance to see it.
Oh, and one more thing. It's not quite finished yet. Ally has another wee ploy up his sleeve. I'll keep you posted.
