Border TV was at the Autotest yesterday
doing a piece for the telly, but the young lady reporter was struggling. Not so
much with the rules and regulations or even the terminology, and not even with
the fact that ‘junior’ telly reporters these days are having to do the filming,
the interviewing and the editing all by themselves, but with the hooligans.
As one of the top two local drivers, Willie Keaning was an obvious
subject for a chat. Much time was spent on ‘framing the shot’ with the ‘Oor Wullie’
lookalike perched on top of a pile of tyres with the car in the background. All
set up, the young lady started filming and Willie started chatting, but Willie
was struggling. Never usually stuck for words Willie was constantly trying to
stifle a fit of the giggles – till the young lady realised what was going on
behind her!
Oh, and by the way, if you do go along today, you have to
try Gary’s caramel shortcake. Forget the burgers, just have a coffee and a
cake, they’re only a pound each. If you think the caramel shortcake looks a bit
too rich, it isn’t. That’s down to the fact that top chef Gary uses a blend of
milk and dark chocolate for the topping. Ingenious - and scrumptious.
I only had one bit, and that was purely in the interests of
culinary science.
