F1 - More rubber

Now I know it has nothing to do with rallying but we all have at least a wee bit of an interest in F1, don't we? Anyway, this photograph from Pirelli graphically highlights the difference in sizes of the new tyres for next season compared to what the teams are running currently.

Ferrari and Mercedes are testing them at Barcelona and Paul Ricard just now, using adapted 'mule' cars designed to simulate 2017 levels of downforce.

The new tyres are 25% wider than the current tyres at both the front and rear: part of a package of measures being introduced to make next year’s cars notably faster. In 2017, the slick tyre sizes will be 305/670-13 (front) and 405/670-13 (rear).

Intermediate’s diameter will be 675mm. Full wet diameter will be 680mm.
