The sight and sound of rally nostalgia …. Excitement is building ahead of this weekend’s 23rd/24th August ‘Lombard Rally Festival’ at Craufurdland Castle just outside Kilmarnock (KA3 6BS). This is one of a number of such rally-style events staged at various country estates around England which made their first visit to Scotland at Craufurdland last year. Now back for a second visit the organisers are promising bigger and better things and with the enthusiastic support of local business Andrew Dodds Autocare and ‘Ayrshire Daily News’, there should be something on show for everyone.
Named after the Lombard Rally of Great Britain which ran throughout the UK in the 1970s and 1980s, this event aims to capture some of the excitement and nostalgia of those bygone times – which many rally fans reckon were the best days of rallying.
Access is best from the B7061 through Fenwick, turning south east on to the ‘Waterslap Road’ at the southern end of the village which will take you straight to the main gates behind the castle - rather than try and approach from the front.
