There is an old saying that ‘every day is a schoolday’ and there must be some truth in that, because I learned something new today – podcasts. Somehow I was inveigled into being a guest on just such an entity and spent the morning at a secret location being grilled by someone who knew some things about me that had been long forgotten – deliberately.
Admittedly I have heard of podcasts, but they are not for me. I prefer the written word. When you see a byline on a news item, report or editorial then it is more easily judged whether the writer is knowledgeable about their subject, or not.
The thing about podcasts is that sometimes you have no idea who the originator is or what their background is. And then there are the ‘well-informed’ types who take to the airwaves to expound beliefs, opinions and ‘insights’. There are even well known journalists who have taken to the internet to share their thoughts but some of them just give the impression that they like the sound of their own voices. Of course I have tried to listen to one or two over recent times but those have only served to reinforce my preference for the written word. Maybe I just haven’t found the right proponents of this new media genre.
Getting me to ‘volunteer’ this morning therefore required some serious persuasion given my misgivings and no doubt I will get some stick for my own utterances. However I have been promised a copy of this before it goes ‘live’ at the end of the month. On the other hand, it might be so bad that it will never see the light of day!
All will be revealed (or not!) soon, so I’ll let you know, and once you know who the interviewer is you’ll understand why I was so easily persuaded (fooled?) to participate. Apparently the chat lasted for 58 minutes – so we’ll soon find out how much made it to air - or not!
Ear muffs at the ready – or just reach for the ‘off’ switch.
