Having won yesterday’s Albar
Trophy Kames Rally, Peter Bennett did it again today. The Northern Irish lad
took the lead on the third stage and held it all the way to the finish.
Second yesterday, and having initially led this morning, Finlay
Retson was right on Bennett’s tail for most of the day till the 8th
stage out of 14 when he outbraked himself and his Citroen C1 slid off the road
and up a banking, snapping the accelerator pedal in the process. He regained
the track but all hopes of victory had gone.
Harry Chalmers and Brodie Balfour had a good scrap for second
place with Chalmers seizing the runner-up spot by just 6 seconds.
Adding a touch of international flavour to proceedings was
17 year old Umberto Accornero who finished sixth yesterday and fourth today,
but he wasn’t worried about placings. Today was only his sixth rally and he
needed a finish to get his sixth signature to qualify for a National ‘A’ competition
licence. That’s because he’s doing his first ‘senior’ event next weekend, the
Greystoke Stages Rally in Cumbria.
Ross Fernie used this event as a shakedown for next weekend’s
Mach 1 Stages Rally at Campbeltown and won today’s senior rally.
