White Van Man gets electrified

If rallying does eventually go electric then that will have a knock-on effect to other aspects of the sport, for instance, electric service vans. So how do you fancy one of these appearing in your rear view mirror? Scary looking, eh?

Perhaps better known for manufacturing electric buses, the London based Arrival company has revealed details of its new light commercial vehicle which will be built at factories in Bicester (UK) and South Carolina (USA). The new van will be undergoing public road trials with key customers this summer before being offered for general sale later next year.

A choice of battery options will give it a range of 90 to 200 miles with an impressive payload capacity of 1975 kgs. There will be a 6.5 mtr 'long' version in addition to the standard 5.1 mtr van.

The specification includes independent front and rear suspension, heated seating, full cabin climate control and a 15.6” touch-screen driver interface. It will also benefit from all the latest on-road technology including digital e-mirrors, a 360-degree surround view, Advanced Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring, Traffic Sign Recognition and Lane Keep Assist.

And if this is the service van of the future, does that mean the service crew will be replaced by a bunch of motley R2D2s, or given the average service crew physique and intellect - Chewbaccas more likely?

  1. Man and van is a rather simple service aiming to aid one's move. When you're relocating on your own accord you generally don't need any help. However, when it comes down to shifting big pieces of furniture your strength alone won't be enough. For such occasions exists van and a man moving service. Man with Van
