Road - MAN van

There's a new man in town, or should I say, a new MAN. Better known for their ranges of TGX, TGS, TGM and TGL heavy trucks, MAN has introduced a new range, the TGE.  Although it is already part of the Volkswagen AG Group, MAN Truck & Bus felt it had a gap at the lighter 3t-7.5tonne Light Commercial Vehicle end of the goods vehicle business.

Not only would existing Truck and Bus customers now have the option of an appropriately branded LCV, but it might just open up the brand to new customers who fancy the 'MAN' branded corporate clothing!

Of course, most of us will instantly recognise the new vehicle as a Volkswagen Crafter with a different grille and badging. Everything else is the same. The van comes in FWD, RWD and AWD configurations powered by the same basic 2 litre turbo diesel engine in four different power outputs.

This 'badge engineering' is not new, most manufacturer are at it these days to spread research and development costs and share production facilities. But what you might not know, is that Volkswagen is currently the biggest truck manufacturer and seller in Brazil and has a major share of the South American market.

Anyway, it's something else for the 'are we there yet?' kids to look out for on your next happy family outing.
